Who should attend?
Students and new entrants to the field of federal government communications.
The course objectives are to:
- give participants a broad understanding of the Government of Canada's Communication Policy;
- leave participants with an understanding of the news media and the different needs of print and broadcast journalists; and,
- give participants basic skills in the development of messages and media lines.
The course content includes:
- an analysis and discussion of the components of news;
- a discussion of journalists' and public servants' mutual perceptions;
- Treasury Board's revised guidelines on relations with the news media; and,
- preparing and delivering messages and media lines.
There is an emphasis on individual and group exercises to apply and reinforce the principles introduced.
