21st Century Media Relations

Who should attend?

A two-hour presentation and discussion that focuses on the current state of the news media in Canada. It examines the concrete impact on you and your audiences of the evolution of the industry in such areas as ownership and the pervasiveness of new technology. It offers some practical advice on how your organization can take steps to adapt to the changing nature of news gathering.

The session objectives are to:

  • give participants a broad understanding of how changes in the news industry have affected how reporters go about their work, and
  • give participants an overview of the implications of these changes in terms of how organizations and spokespersons communicate with or through the media.

The session content includes:

  • an analysis and discussion of the concentration of media ownership and the impact of new technology related to news gathering, reporting and consumption, and
